Sweetest Day 2012

Sweetest Day was created as a way for women to treat their men, as Valentine’s Day became more about men appreciating women.  An opportunity to show love and appreciation.  This holiday is primarily in the Midwest, more so in the Great Lakes region, but is making its way to the eastern and western states.  It is to be celebrated on the third Saturday in October.

How you celebrate Sweetest Day is Family, friends and especially lovers give each other candy and cards. Like Valentine's Day, the Sweetest Day is associated with heart-shaped boxes, and the colors pink and red.  Sweetest week originally began on October 10th is 1927, yet this faded and sweetest day remains.

Sweetest Day (also known as Hallmark Holiday)  was originally announced in Cleveland, Ohio on February 25,1922 by the Cleveland Plain Dealer's by twelve candy makers.  These same candy makers distributed over 20,000 boxes of candy to the poor, orphans and older people in the community.  The retail confectioners wanted this also as an opportunity to remember the sick, aged and orphaned since they are often forgotten.  Once move to October, it made it much easier to market since it is much closer to Halloween.
